Indications: Visceralgine is an antispasmodic agent used to relieve smooth muscle spasm of the gastrointestinal tract, biliary system, urinary tract, and uterus. It is indicated for the symptomatic management of pain associated with functional gastrointestinal and biliary disorders, as well as spasmodic conditions in urological and gynecological diseases.Pharmacology: Tiemonium Methylsulphate acts as a competitive antagonist of acetylcholine and histamine and enhances calcium binding with membrane phospholipids and proteins. This action inhibits intracellular contractile proteins in visceral smooth muscle cells, leading to relaxation of smooth muscles and reduction of spasm and associated pain.Dosage & Administration: For oral use, adults may take 2–6 tablets daily or 3–9 teaspoonfuls of syrup in divided doses. In children, the recommended dose is 3 ml/kg or 6 mg/kg body weight daily in divided doses. Injection may be administered intravenously (slowly) or intramuscularly, typically one injection three times daily. Suppositories of 20 mg may be used rectally two to three times daily.Interaction: It should not be used with other medications without medical advice, as potential drug interactions may occur.Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with urethroprostatic disorders associated with risk of urinary retention and in those with angle-closure glaucoma.Side Effects: Possible adverse effects include hypotension and tachycardia in some individuals.Pregnancy & Lactation: Animal studies have not shown teratogenic effects, and no abnormalities have been reported with usual use. However, due to limited human data, caution is advised during pregnancy and breastfeeding.Precautions & Warnings: Use with caution in patients with prostatic disorders, chronic bronchitis, coronary insufficiency, hyperthermia, and renal or hepatic impairment. Visual disturbances may occur, so caution is advised while driving or operating machinery.Use in Special Populations: Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients have not been established. In elderly patients, efficacy and safety appear to be maintained without significant differences.Overdose Effects: No specific data are available regarding overdose.
