Voligel (Diclofenac Sodium): Voligel is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) indicated for the treatment of pain, inflammation, and swelling associated with rheumatic disorders (e.g., osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, acute gout), musculoskeletal injuries (sprains, fractures, dislocations, soft tissue injuries), postoperative pain, primary dysmenorrhea, gynecological infections, ENT and dental procedures, and renal or biliary colic. It works by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis through cyclooxygenase (COX) inhibition, producing anti-inflammatory, analgesic, antipyretic, and mild uricosuric effects. The dosage depends on the formulation; in adults, the usual oral dose is 75–150 mg/day in divided doses, preferably after meals, with a maximum daily dose of 150 mg. Diclofenac may interact with lithium, digoxin, anticoagulants, cyclosporine, methotrexate, quinolone antibiotics, corticosteroids, and other NSAIDs, increasing the risk of toxicity or adverse effects. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to diclofenac or other NSAIDs, active peptic ulcer disease, aspirin-induced asthma, urticaria or rhinitis, and diclofenac gel should not be used under occlusive dressings. Common adverse effects include epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, headache, dizziness, skin rash, edema, and with the gel, local skin irritation and redness. It should be used with caution in elderly patients and those at risk of gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding. During pregnancy, diclofenac should be used only if clearly necessary at the lowest effective dose, and the gel is not recommended; only a small amount passes into breast milk, with minimal expected effects on the infant. Voligel should be stored below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protected from light, and kept out of the reach of children.
