Ecosprin (Aspirin): Ecosprin is an antiplatelet drug indicated for the prevention of arterial thrombotic events such as myocardial infarction (MI), re-infarction, post-bypass surgery, acute ischemic stroke, and transient ischemic attack (TIA). It is also used for the relief of mild to moderate pain (e.g., headache, muscle pain, dysmenorrhea, toothache), pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis, and as an antipyretic for fever associated with cold and influenza. Aspirin works by inhibiting platelet aggregation, thereby preventing thrombus formation, and also possesses analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic properties. The usual dose is 300 mg every 6 hours for pain and fever (maximum 4 g/day), while 75–300 mg/day is used for cardiovascular protection depending on the indication. Enteric-coated aspirin helps reduce gastrointestinal irritation and ulceration. Aspirin may interact with anticoagulants, oral hypoglycemic agents, phenytoin, sodium valproate, probenecid, and sulfonamides, increasing the risk of bleeding or drug toxicity, and may precipitate bronchospasm in susceptible individuals. It is contraindicated in children under 12 years (due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome), active peptic ulcer, bleeding disorders (e.g., hemophilia), intracranial hemorrhage, breastfeeding, and other active ulcerative conditions. Common adverse effects include nausea, dyspepsia, gastrointestinal ulceration, and bronchospasm. It should be used with caution in patients with asthma, uncontrolled hypertension, nasal polyps, nasal allergy, and during pregnancy, especially avoiding use in the last trimester unless specifically advised by a physician. In overdose, symptoms may include dizziness, tinnitus, sweating, nausea, vomiting, confusion, and hyperventilation, with severe cases causing coma, cardiovascular collapse, and respiratory depression; management includes gastric lavage, forced alkaline diuresis, and hemodialysis if necessary. Ecosprin should be stored in a cool, dry place, protected from light, and kept out of the reach of children.
