Product Description

The combination of Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Zinc, Copper, and Lutein constitutes a potent multivitamin and mineral formulation specifically engineered to bolster the ocular antioxidant defense system and mitigate the progression of degenerative eye conditions. This preparation is largely based on the clinical framework of the AREDS2 (Age-Related Eye Disease Study 2), where high-dose antioxidants work synergistically to neutralize reactive oxygen species (ROS) and singlet oxygen molecules that accumulate in the retina due to chronic light exposure and metabolic stress. Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and Vitamin E (dl-Alpha Tocopheryl Acetate) act as primary water-soluble and fat-soluble antioxidants, respectively, protecting cellular membranes from lipid peroxidation. Lutein, a naturally occurring carotenoid and macular pigment, acts as a "natural sunglasses" filter, absorbing high-energy blue light and protecting the macula lutea from oxidative damage, which is vital for maintaining central visual acuity. From a biochemical perspective, Zinc is an essential cofactor for numerous ocular enzymes, including superoxide dismutase, which plays a critical role in preventing cellular apoptosis in the retinal pigment epithelium. Because high-dose zinc supplementation can interfere with the intestinal absorption of copper, causing a secondary deficiency, Copper (as Cupric Oxide) is added to maintain systemic mineral balance and support cytochrome c oxidase activity. This formulation is primarily indicated as an anti-cataract and anti-macular degeneration preparation, effectively slowing the opacification of the crystalline lens and reducing the risk of progressing to advanced Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD). Clinically, while these preparations are generally well-tolerated, patients should be monitored for gastrointestinal irritation or potential interactions with blood thinners due to the high Vitamin E content.
