Indications:
Progavi is used for relief of gastric reflux, heartburn, indigestion and flatulence associated with reflux. It is also effective in heartburn during pregnancy and other conditions causing epigastric or retrosternal discomfort due to acid reflux.
Pharmacology:
Progavi contains sodium alginate, calcium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate. It works by neutralizing excess stomach acid and forming a protective gel “raft” that floats on stomach contents, preventing acid from refluxing into the esophagus. This provides quick relief and protects against irritation from acid, pepsin and bile.
Dosage and Administration:
For oral suspension: Adults and children over 12 years should take 10–20 mL after meals and at bedtime, up to four times daily. Children 6–12 years: 5–10 mL after meals and at bedtime. Not recommended for children under 6 years unless advised.
Chewable tablets: Adults and children above 12 years should take 2–4 tablets after meals and at bedtime. Tablets should be chewed thoroughly before swallowing.
Drug Interactions:
A gap of at least 2 hours should be maintained between Progavi and other medications such as tetracyclines, fluoroquinolones, digoxin, iron, thyroid hormones, beta-blockers and others, as absorption may be affected.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to any of its components.
Side Effects:
Generally well tolerated. Possible side effects include constipation, flatulence, stomach cramps, belching or mild abdominal discomfort.
Pregnancy and Lactation:
Safe to use during pregnancy and breastfeeding when clinically required, with no significant harmful effects reported.
Precautions and Warnings:
Use with caution in patients on low-sodium diets, renal impairment or conditions like hypercalcaemia. Not recommended for long-term use without medical advice. May mask symptoms of serious conditions if used continuously.
Overdose Effects:
Overdose may cause abdominal bloating or discomfort. Treatment is symptomatic.

Storage Conditions:
Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place, protect from light, and do not refrigerate or freeze. Keep out of reach of children.
