Acical-D (Calcium Carbonate + Vitamin D₃): Acical-D is a calcium and vitamin D₃ supplement indicated for the treatment and prevention of osteoporosis, osteomalacia, rickets, tetany, and parathyroid disorders. It is also used as a supplement during pregnancy and lactation, for bone and tooth formation, alongside anti-seizure therapy, and as a phosphate binder in chronic renal failure. Calcium is essential for bone formation and maintenance, while vitamin D₃ (cholecalciferol) enhances calcium absorption and reabsorption, promotes bone formation, and helps prevent osteoporosis and fractures. The usual dose is Calcium 500 mg + Vitamin D₃ 200 IU: 2 tablets daily (or 1 tablet twice daily), or Calcium 500 mg + Vitamin D₃ 400 IU: 1 tablet twice daily, preferably with or immediately after meals. Acical-D may interact with calcium-, aluminum-, or magnesium-containing antacids, other calcium or vitamin D supplements, digoxin, and tetracycline antibiotics (e.g., doxycycline, minocycline, oxytetracycline). It is contraindicated in patients with hypercalcemia, hyperparathyroidism, renal calculi (kidney stones), nephrolithiasis, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. It is generally well tolerated, with possible side effects including nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, constipation, dry mouth, increased thirst, and increased urination. It should be used with caution in patients with heart disease or kidney disease, and during pregnancy or breastfeeding only under medical supervision. In overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, severe drowsiness, dry mouth, loss of appetite, metallic taste, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, headache, and constipation. Acical-D should be stored in a dry place, protected from light and heat, and kept out of the reach of children.
