Product Description

Tenocab (Amlodipine + Atenolol): Tenocab is a combined antihypertensive preparation containing Amlodipine (calcium channel blocker) and Atenolol (cardioselective β₁-blocker). It is indicated for the treatment of essential hypertension, hypertension associated with angina pectoris, post-myocardial infarction (MI) patients, and refractory angina where nitrate therapy has failed. Amlodipine lowers blood pressure by relaxing vascular smooth muscle, reducing peripheral vascular resistance, and decreasing cardiac afterload, while Atenolol reduces heart rate, cardiac output, plasma renin activity, and myocardial oxygen demand, thereby lowering blood pressure and improving angina. The usual recommended dose is Amlodipine 5 mg + Atenolol 25 mg once daily, which may be increased to two tablets daily if required, with dosage individualized according to patient response. Tenocab may interact with disopyramide (enhanced negative inotropic effect), ampicillin (reduced atenolol levels), and oral antidiabetic drugs or insulin (may reduce insulin sensitivity and increase the risk of hypoglycemia). It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to either component, sinus bradycardia, second- or third-degree heart block, cardiogenic shock, hypotension, congestive heart failure, and severe left ventricular dysfunction. Common adverse effects include fatigue, headache, edema, nausea, drowsiness, anxiety, and depression. It should be used with caution in patients with bronchospasm, renal impairment (especially creatinine clearance <30 mL/min), severe hepatic impairment, and should not be discontinued abruptly, particularly in patients with coronary artery disease. During pregnancy, it should be used only if the potential benefit outweighs the fetal risk, and it is not recommended during breastfeeding. In case of overdose, hypotension and heart failure may occur, requiring supportive treatment, gastric lavage, or activated charcoal if appropriate. Tenocab should be stored below 30°C, protected from light and moisture, and kept out of the reach of children.
