Indications:Tuspel is used for relief of chest congestion, cough and sore throat.Composition:Each 5 ml syrup contains:Guaifenesin 200 mgDextromethorphan Hydrobromide 15 mgMenthol 15 mgPharmacology:Guaifenesin is an expectorant that loosens mucus in the airways.Dextromethorphan suppresses cough by acting on the brain’s cough center.Menthol provides soothing relief by its mild anesthetic and cooling effect on the throat.Dosage and Administration:Adults and children ≥12 years: 10 ml every 6 hoursMaximum dose: 40 ml per dayNot recommended for children under 12 years.Drug Interactions:May interact with drugs like acetaminophen, codeine, diphenhydramine, escitalopram, alprazolam and ondansetron. Avoid use with MAO inhibitors.Contraindications:Contraindicated in patients taking MAO inhibitors or within 2 weeks of stopping them.Side Effects:Common side effects include dizziness, drowsiness, stomach upset, nervousness, restlessness and irritability.Pregnancy and Lactation:Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Safety in breastfeeding is not well established.Precautions and Warnings:Consult a doctor before use in asthma, chronic cough or lung disease. Avoid use with antidepressants without medical advice.Overdose Effects:Overdose may cause confusion, dizziness, respiratory depression, nausea and vomiting.
