Kilbac is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that contains Cefuroxime axetil, utilized for treating a broad spectrum of bacterial infections, including respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and soft tissue infections. It functions by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis through binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which disrupts the final transpeptidation step of peptidoglycan synthesis, ultimately leading to bacterial cell lysis. Unlike many first-generation cephalosporins, Cefuroxime exhibits enhanced stability against many beta-lactamases, making it effective against both Gram-positive organisms, such as Staphylococcus aureus, and several Gram-negative pathogens, including Haemophilus influenzae and Escherichia coli.
