Cefixime trihydrate is a broad-spectrum, third-generation oral cephalosporin antibiotic highly valued for its stability against many beta-lactamase enzymes. It exerts its bactericidal effect by binding to penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), which inhibits the final transpeptidation step of bacterial cell wall synthesis, ultimately leading to cell lysis.
