Lorno (Lornoxicam): Lorno is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the oxicam class, indicated for the short-term relief of acute mild to moderate pain and the symptomatic relief of pain and inflammation in osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. It acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, thereby reducing prostaglandin synthesis, which decreases pain and inflammation. The recommended dose is 8–16 mg/day in divided doses for acute pain and 12 mg/day initially for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis, with a maximum daily dose of 16 mg. In patients with mild to moderate renal or hepatic impairment, the maximum dose should not exceed 12 mg/day, and it is not recommended for patients below 18 years. Lornoxicam may interact with warfarin (increased bleeding risk), cyclosporine (kidney injury), lithium, methotrexate, digoxin (increased toxicity), and may reduce the effects of diuretics, ACE inhibitors, and angiotensin II receptor antagonists. It is contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to lornoxicam, peptic ulcer, severe hepatic or renal impairment, thrombocytopenia, and during the third trimester of pregnancy. Common adverse effects are mainly gastrointestinal, including nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, constipation, flatulence, peptic ulcer, and gastrointestinal bleeding. It should be used with caution in patients with renal impairment, hypertension, heart failure, asthma, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, bleeding disorders, SLE, and in women receiving infertility treatment. Lornoxicam is not recommended during pregnancy (especially the third trimester) or breastfeeding. In case of overdose, treatment is supportive and symptomatic, as no specific antidote is available. It should be stored below 30°C, protected from light and moisture, and kept out of the reach of children.
